ARC Grant Received to Increase Student Health Opportunities

The Walker County Health Action Partnership has received a $50,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) in order to increase physical activity and nutrition education opportunities for Walker County students. The goal of the project is twofold: to encourage children’s physical activity by equipping 10 Head Start sites with PE equipment and supplies, and to transform county schools into hubs for healthy eating and nutrition education, complementing the existing “Food-and-Farm-Based” agribusiness curriculum.  Greenhouses and aquaponic tanks are among many of the expansions and additions that will be considered for schools throughout the county.

Watch for updates as developments keep happening at the schools and throughout the community!
